Rudolf Genschel

Rudolf Genschel (born March 30, 1891 in Kassel , † August 5, 1972 in Hanover ) was a German biologist.

Life

After graduating from high school, Genschel studied biology in Göttingen and Marburg and passed his state examination for higher education at the age of 23 . During the First World War he suffered a serious hip injury and was disabled for life. After the war he worked as a teacher. He joined the educational reform movement of Hermann Lietz and worked at the boarding school in Tübingen. After his marriage he moved to Berlin-Köpenick as a teacher. There he got involved with the Social Democrats, supported the pacifists , the nature conservation movement and the Blue Cross members . After the outbreak of the Second World War , he was drafted into the weather service and so survived the Nazi era . After the war, in 1946 Genschel became professor for didactics of biology at the Hanover Department of the Lower Saxony University of Education (today Department of Education II at the University of Hanover).

Free-spirited action

On November 11, 1946, the German Monist Federation was re-established in Munich under the name "Deutscher Monistenbund für Scientific Weltanschauung and ethical culture". At the Federal Assembly of 1956 it was agreed to rename it to "Freigeistige Aktion - Deutscher Monisten-Bund" with Genschel as 1st chairman. The association magazine was the “Freigeistigen Aktion”, whose editor from 1957 to 1963 was Rudolf Genschel.
