from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Przemislaus II. (Also Primislaus II., Przemislaw II .; * Around 1420 ; † 1477 ) was Duke of Teschen from 1431 until his death in 1477 and from 1460 Duke of Glogau . He came from the Teschen branch of the Silesian Piasts .

Life

Primislaus parents were Duke Boleslaus I of Teschen and Eufemia of Mazovia . In 1460/68 he married Anna († 1477/80), a daughter of Duke Boleslaw IV of Mazovia . The marriage had the only daughter Hedwig (1469-1521), who married the Hungarian magnate István Zapolya († 1499) in 1483 .

After the death of his father Boleslaus I in 1431, Primislaus II inherited his property together with his brothers Wenceslaus I , Wladislaus and Boleslaus II . Since they were not yet of legal age, they were initially under the tutelage of their mother, who also ruled the duchy until 1442. After the division that took place that year, Primislaus II received part of the Duchy of Teschen. Together with the dukes Wilhelm von Troppau , Nikolaus V von Ratibor - Jägerndorf and Heinrich IX. von Glogau he fought the robber abuse in 1443. After the death of his brother Boleslaus II in 1452, Primislaus II took over the guardianship of his underage son Casimir II. After the Pike von Rossitz died out, the Moravian rule Rossitz came to Primislaus II, which he sold to Hynko von Kukwitz in 1464.

Like his brother Wladislaus, Primislaus also supported the Bohemian King George of Podebrady . In 1458 he received the Moravian rule Eichhorn from him in pledge and temporarily resided at the castle there. In 1459 he paid homage to George of Podebrady, on whose behalf he brokered a meeting of Bohemian and Polish representatives in Bytom in 1460 , which finally led to a meeting of George of Podebrady with the Polish King Casimir IV Jagiełło in Glogau in May 1462 . On the occasion of the meeting, a mutual protection and defensive alliance was agreed. After the death of his brother Wladislaus in 1460, Primislaus inherited his "royal" half of Glogau, which his grandfather Primislaus I had inherited from the Bohemian King Wenceslaus in 1384 , but which initially belonged to Wladislaus widow Barbara von Cilli as their personal property.

During the Hungarian-Bohemian War Primislaus II fought on the side of Georg von Podiebrad. Together with the Troppauer provincial governor Bernhard Birka von Nassiedel ( Bírka z Násidle ) he conquered the whole of Upper Silesia . This is probably why Matthias Corvinus occupied Eichhorn Castle in 1468/69. In addition, Corvinus illegally handed over the “royal” half of Glogau to Duke Heinrich XI. von Glogau , who inherited the “ducal” half of Glogau after the death of his father in 1467. Nevertheless, Primislaus II paid homage to Matthias Corvinus in 1469 and was present when he was elected King of Bohemia in Olomouc . Since he subsequently maintained good relations with Matthias Corvinus, the Duchy of Teschen was only slightly drawn into the armed conflicts.

Together with the dukes Viktorin von Troppau and his brother Heinrich d. Ä. von Münsterberg as well as the Opole brothers Nikolaus II. and Johann II. Primislaus II belonged to a coalition formed by King Matthias Corvinus in 1473, which captured the Rybnik Duke Wenzel , whose property was handed over to Viktorin von Troppau. Relations with Matthias Corvinus deteriorated when he suspected Primislaus II of having made contact with the rightful King Vladislav II .

Primislaus II died on March 18, 1477 and was buried in the Dominican church in Teschen. Since he left no male descendants, his nephew Kazimir II. Followed him as Duke of Teschen.
