Rudolf Lindenmann

Rudolf Lindenmann (born April 24, 1808 in Fahrwangen ; † December 4, 1871 in Koethen (Anhalt) ; entitled to live in Fahrwangen) was a Swiss politician and judge . From 1841 to 1851 he was Councilor of the Canton of Aargau .

biography

The son of the father of the same name, councilor of Fahrwangen and Johanna, née Fischer, attended the trade school in Brugg and the canton school in Aarau . He then studied law at the Universities of Basel and Jena . In the turmoil of the separation of the cantons in Basel , he sided with the rebellious rural population and was a member of their council of war. In 1833 he was admitted to the bar and was a district judge and school inspector in Lenzburg for a year . In 1834 he was elected to the Grand Council , to which he belonged on the side of the Liberals until 1852 and again from 1856 to 1862. From 1842 to 1852 he was President of the Aargau Agricultural Society.

From 1835 Lindenmann worked on behalf of the cantonal government as administrator of the goods of the Muri monastery . When the Great Council decided on January 10, 1841 to abolish all monasteries , it carried out this massnahne in Muri, but was stopped by an angry crowd and injured in the process. Four months later, the canton parliament elected Lindenmann to the government, to which he belonged for ten years. From 1852 he worked as a post director in Aarau and campaigned for the expansion of the telegraph network. He also promoted the construction of the railway, but his project for a Bözbergbahn was not realized during his lifetime.

Due to an intrigue by truck drivers and political opponents, Lindenmann was no longer confirmed as post director in 1858, after which he ran an agricultural business with a mill and mechanical workshop in Bünzen . Fraudulent employees drove him into financial ruin in 1863; then he moved to Koethen , where he got a job as secretary of a homeopathic institution.
