Rudolf Maria Koppmann

Rudolf Johannes Maria Koppmann OMI (born January 18, 1913 in Essen , † June 24, 2007 in Hünfeld ) was a German religious priest and Apostolic Vicar of Windhoek .

Life

In 1933, at the age of 20, Koppmann joined the Order of the Oblates of the Immaculate Virgin Mary . In 1938 he was ordained a priest by Johannes Dietz , who was then coadjutor and later Bishop of Fulda . Since 1939 he worked as an Oblate Missionary in Namibia . 1957 he was by Pope Pius XII. appointed Titular Bishop of Dalisandus in Pamphylia and Apostolic Coadjutor Vicar of Windhoek . In 1957 he received the episcopal ordination in Hünfeld by the apostolic vicar Joseph Gotthardt (OMI). Rudolf Maria Koppmann worked as Apostolic Vicar of Windhoek from 1957 to 1980. In order to shorten the travel times for his visitations, Koppmann learned to fly soon after taking office. From then on, he was able to reach all of his communities with a Dornier Do 27 within a few hours. From 1962 to 1965 he was a participant in the Second Vatican Council .

From 1982 to 1993 he worked for the Missionary Sisters of the Benedictine Order in Tutzing as a hospital chaplain and spiritual director. Since the end of 1993 he spent his retirement in the Hünfeld Oblate Monastery. In 2007 he celebrated his 50th anniversary in the service of the bishop. Rudolf Maria Koppmann was buried in the monastery cemetery of the Huenfeld Oblates in Hünfeld.
