The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Windhoek ( Latin Archidioecesis Vindhoekensis , English Archdiocese of Windhoek ) is a in Namibia situated Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Windhoek as part of the Roman Catholic Church in Namibia .

history

Founded as the Apostolic Prefecture of Cimbebasia Inferiore on August 1, 1892, it was renamed the Apostolic Prefecture of Cimbebasia on January 10, 1921 . On May 11, 1926, the elevation to a Vicariate Apostolic took place . On April 2, 1959, the Dioceses of Bulawayo and Kimberley and the Vicariate Apostolic Windhoek gave up parts of their territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture of Bechuanaland . On March 14, 1994 the elevation to the Archdiocese of Windhoek took place with the simultaneous appointment of an archbishop and the outsourcing of part of its territory as the Apostolic Vicariate of Rundu .
