Rudolf Meier (politician, 1907)

Rudolf Meier (born January 30, 1907 in Eglisau ; † June 30, 1986 there , entitled to live in Eglisau) was a Swiss politician (BGB) .

biography

The son of a farmer graduated after attending the elementary school agricultural school in Bülach . As a member of the BGB, he served at the municipal level from 1938 to 1947 as the mayor of Eglisau. At the cantonal level, Meier was a member of the Zurich Cantonal Council from 1935 to 1947 , and then to the Government Council of the Canton of Zurich until 1971 . In his function as a member of the government, he headed the Department of Justice and Home Affairs until 1950, the Department of Economics from 1950 to 1954, and from 1954 the Department of Finance. He was also represented in the National Council from 1943 to 1951 and in the Council of States from 1960 to 1967 . Meier was most recently a member of the Rentenanstalt supervisory board from 1963 to 1985 , which he has chaired since 1976.

Rudolf Meier was involved in numerous foundations and associations, such as the non-profit society of the Bülach district, the Society for Local Studies of the Zürcher Unterland and the Pro Senectute Foundation , for which he acted as President of the Management Committee and Honorary President . As a politician, he campaigned for public transport, worked on the Transport Commission of the National Council and sat on the Board of Directors of the Swiss Federal Railways between 1957 and 1977 , which he also chaired from 1972.

He was married to Hedwig nee Maurer. Rudolf Meier died on June 30, 1986, five months after turning 79 in Eglisau.
