Rudolf Perak (born March 29, 1891 in Vienna , † December 3, 1972 in Munich ) was an Austrian composer and film composer .

Life

Perak received his artistic training at the Salzburg Mozarteum . He then worked as a conductor in the Austro-Hungarian province (e.g. in Merano in South Tyrol ) but also at the Hamburg Operettenhaus and the Berlin Metropol Theater . In addition, the actor's son worked as a freelance composer and wrote operettas such as Frau im Frack , The Duke's Page and A Girl Like You .

With the dawn of the sound film age, Perak also became active for this medium; He wrote most of his musical contributions to the full-length German feature film in collaboration with colleagues such as Robert Stolz , Nikolaus Brodszky and Michael Jary . By 1942, numerous of his scores were also written for productions by Belgian director Jan Vanderheyden , and after the war various pieces of music for Vanderheyden's film editor Edith Kiel , who had meanwhile switched to directing.

While his work for the feature film makes up only a subordinate share, the composition for documentary and cultural films (around 300 pieces) was Perak's main occupation for the film medium. Perak also wrote the sheet music for a number of television plays.
