Rudolf Sanzin
Rudolf Sanzin (born June 4, 1874 in Mürzzuschlag ; † June 2, 1922 in Trieste ) was an Austrian engineer and locomotive designer.
Even his father was a civil servant on the southern railway . After graduating from the German secondary school in Trieste , he studied at the Technical University of Graz until 1900 , where he then worked for a year as an assistant for mechanical engineering. The following year he was employed by the Südbahn himself, where he carried out numerous tests on steam locomotives, the results of which were incorporated into several of his work. He did his doctorate in 1904 at the TH Graz (dissertation: Investigations into the performance of a locomotive and determination of the most favorable load on the same ). His other publications attracted a lot of attention in the railway ministry, so he was recruited by Karl Gölsdorf for this, where he himself worked as a designer. Later he became head of the department for the construction of electric locomotives in the then electrification office .
In 1906 he completed his habilitation in Graz and in 1909 at the Technical University of Vienna , where he was appointed associate professor in 1919. In 1911 and 1913, like his mentor Gölsdorf, he went on study trips to England. In 1920 Sanzin was appointed head of the department for locomotive construction and mechanical-mechanical equipment. He was a member and honorary member of several technical associations and wrote numerous specialist articles in a large number of magazines, including in the Lokomotive , the magazine of the Austrian Association of Engineers and Architects and the magazine of the Association of German Engineers .
In addition to his professional activity, he also engaged in painting and made numerous drawings and watercolors . However, this activity also led to his death: while on vacation in Trieste, he died of poisoning from a paint he used. He rests in an honorary grave in the Vienna Central Cemetery (16B-9-25). In 1942 the Sanzingasse in Vienna- Favoriten was named after him.
