Rudolf Scheffel

Rudolf Scheffel (born June 6, 1901 in Debschwitz , † September 8, 1943 in Berlin-Plötzensee ) was a German communist and resistance fighter .

Life

Rudolf Scheffel joined the KPD and the KJVD in 1922 . In 1923 he was briefly taken into protective custody.

He was an employee of the Thuringian Ministry of Education in Weimar .

In 1924 he became managing director of the Ostthüringische Arbeiterzeitung and from 1925 a senior employee of the publishing house Die Junge Garde ; meanwhile also a member of the central committee of the KPD.

He was arrested for the first time by the National Socialists after the Reichstag fire in 1933 and imprisoned for six weeks. After further arrests, he was sentenced to death by the People's Court on August 17, 1943 .

Rudolf Scheffel was executed during the Plötzensee Blood Nights .

Honors

  • The "15th POS 'Rudolf Scheffel'" in Gera (today the state vocational school for industrial professions, Eiselstrasse 44) was named after him. [1]
  • Rudolf-Scheffel-Strasse in Debschwitz has been named after him since September 14, 1947 . There is also a memorial plaque and, since 2010, a stumbling block to remember him.
