Rudolf Schuster (painter)
Rudolf Schuster also Heinrich Rudolf Schuster (born September 1, 1848 in Markneukirchen , Kingdom of Saxony ; † June 30, 1902 there ) was a German painter and illustrator of the 19th century.
Life
Schuster was a student at the Dresden Art Academy from 1863 to 1865 and then worked in Ludwig Richter’s studio from 1867 until his blindness in 1873 . In 1874 he asked him to travel to Italy to study . However, Schuster spent the year 1874 in Munich, where he was captivated by the style of the painters Eduard Schleich the Elder and Adolf Heinrich Lier . In 1875 and 1876 he studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and did not go to Rome until 1879 . Before that, he had already made the German low mountain ranges such as the Giant Mountains , the Eifel , the Ore Mountains and the Alps the subjects of his landscape paintings. In Rome, the city itself was not so much noticed as the light and the expanse of the Campagna Romana and the views of the Sabine Mountains . He got to know the ideal landscape through the pictures of the German painters in Rome Edmund Kanoldt , Heinrich Franz-Dreber and Friedrich Prellers the Younger . Further study trips to Italy followed.
In the future, Schuster turned again to the landscapes of Germany and the Alps and explored them as an enthusiastic hiker from his homes in Berlin , Dresden , Weimar and Meran over the next 15 years . In his paintings from this time the landscape dominates, humans are only included in exceptional cases. The painter returned to his hometown in 1900, where he died two years later.
