Rudolf Siegel (musician)

Rudolf Siegel (born April 12, 1878 in Berlin , † December 4, 1948 in Munich ) was a German conductor and composer .

Life

Siegel studied law and graduated with a doctorate. He then studied with Engelbert Humperdinck in Berlin and Ludwig Thuille in Munich, among others . In 1906/07 he conducted in Essen and from 1910 in Munich. Here he directed the concert company for choral singing and in 1911 performed Hans Pfitzner's opera Der arme Heinrich in the Prinzregententheater as a concert.

From 1912 he lived in Berlin and was the conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra. On May 23, 1914, his comedy opera Mr. Dandolo was performed in the Essen City Theater on the occasion of the Tonkünstler Festival . He also composed 12 German folk songs, for 3-hand piano . From 1914 to 1917 he headed the Musical Academy in Königsberg and served as chief dramaturge in Mannheim in 1918/19 .

In 1919 he became the municipal music director and conductor of the concert company in Krefeld . From 1922 to 1930 he was General Music Director here. He later appeared as a guest conductor in Berlin and Munich.

Siegel was a grandson of the Egyptologist Karl Richard Lepsius and the father of Ralph Maria Siegel and the grandfather of Ralph Siegel .
