Rudolf Stoiber

Rudolf Stoiber (born August 29, 1925 in Steyr , Upper Austria ; † February 19, 2013 in Porto , Portugal ) was the first Austrian radio correspondent in the United States . He also published various youth and non-fiction books and a novel.

Life

Soon after his birth, Rudolf Stoiber and his family moved to Ybbs an der Donau ( Lower Austria ). Later he attended the Neulandschule in Vienna. In 1942 he began his acting career in the radio play department of the Reichssender Wien and appeared in the Theater in der Josefstadt and in the Theater der Jugend . He was co-founder and editor-in-chief of the children's magazine Der Goldene Wagen .

In 1948 he made a study trip to the USA and Canada. In 1952 he emigrated to Canada with Stefan, a delicatessen seller and partner for 10 years, where he founded and directed the “Deutsche Kammerspiele Montreal”. In 1955 he moved to New York City in the United States .

Soon he got to know Harlem's gay nightlife . In February 1970, his beloved father died, which was a severe blow to him. Friends persuaded to go where he at him with them I Got Love by Melba Moore designer Steve Jones met, who became his partner and in 2011 his husband.

Until 1980 he worked as a correspondent for Austrian radio (radio and television). Contrary to what was customary at the time, the general manager gave him the permission to keep his beard, a henriquatre , which triggered other associations with Mephisto or Don Juan .

During this time he interviewed all American presidents and all secretaries-general of the UN. He also worked for the Austria Press Agency (APA) and worked as a stage producer, including for a European tour of James Baldwin's “Amen Corner”.

After leaving the ORF, he wrote for various magazines such as " Wiener " and "Profil" and published non-fiction books. In 2007 his novel "Fridolin" was published. Another novel, "D'Alt Vila", is previously unpublished.
