Rudolf Wondracek

Rudolf Wondracek (born January 9, 1886 in Heiligenstadt , today the municipality of Vienna ; † November 21, 1942 in St. Pölten ) was an Austrian architect, student of Otto Wagner and structural engineer in St. Pölten.

Life

Wondracek was the son of a St. Pölten family from Moravia , and his father of the same name worked as a builder. He graduated from the state trade school , then studied from 1908 to 1910 at the Technical University of Vienna and from 1910 to 1913 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in Otto Wagner's master class.

His practical years, which were interrupted by his military service from 1914 to 1918, he completed with renowned architects of his time such as Peter Behrens in Berlin and Max Fabiani . From 1921 to 1927 he worked in the architecture office of František Janda in Prague. From 1927 to 1934 he was employed as an architect and building construction consultant in the municipal building department of St. Pölten and was then a freelance architect until his death.

Wondracek was awarded the Cross of Honor for Science and Art in 1935, and a street in the St. Pölten district of Wagram has been named after him since 1964 .
