Rudolf Zechner

Rudolf Zechner (born August 25, 1954 in Graz ) is an Austrian molecular biologist and lecturer at the University of Graz .

Career

After studying chemistry in 1980 at the Karl-Franzens University in Graz, Zechner received his PhD. PhD. He then worked as a university assistant at the Institute for Medical Biochemistry until 1984. From 1985 to 1987 he conducted research at the Laboratory of Biochemical Genetics and Metabolism at Rockefeller University in New York City ( USA ) and then returned to Graz.

From 1990 to 1998 he was an associate professor at the Institute for Medical Biochemistry, from 1994 head of the Department of Molecular Biochemistry. In 1998 he became a full university professor for biochemistry and in 1998/99 he was also head of the institute.

From 1997 to 2006 Zechner was head of the SFB Biomembranes Research Association , Graz, Austria . From 1998 to 2004 he was chairman of the natural science faculty at the University of Graz. Since 1999 he has been Vice President of the Austrian Society for Arteriosclerosis and since 2002 project manager of the GEN-AU project "GOLD - Genomics of Lipid-Associated Disorders". Zechner has been a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences since 2004, and a member of the editorial team of the Journal of Lipid Research . Since 2007 he has headed the special research area SFB LIPOTOX , in which eleven research groups from three Graz universities work.
