Rudolph Kaplunger
Rudolph Kaplunger , also Rudolf Kaplunger (born April 2, 1746 in Bechin ( Bohemia ), † December 5, 1795 in Bützow ) was a German sculptor at the end of the 18th century.
life and work
Kaplunger received his training as a sculptor from his father and continued his education in Dresden , Prague , Metz , Paris and Vienna, among others . Around 1770 he lived in Potsdam , from 1777 in Ludwigslust , where he z. B. for Duke Friedrich von Mecklenburg created the complete sculptural decoration of the castle.
His works include:
- 1769 Gable figures of Ceres and Lustitia on the representative house of Georg Christian Unger in Potsdam, Breite Straße, former seat of the Potsdam Museum
- Statue Caritas at the military orphanage (built 1771 to 1778) Potsdam
- 1776 40 allegorical figures made of sandstone on the attic of the newly built castle in Ludwigslust , which in addition to virtues, arts and sciences also represent the areas of interest of Duke Friedrich von Mecklenburg:

family
Kaplunger had been married to a sister of Hofrat Karsten since 1781 . His daughter Johanna, who was born in Ludwigslust, died on September 25, 1840 in Schwerin at the age of 56.
