Rudolph R. Sprüngli

Rudolph Robert Sprüngli (born March 15, 1920 in Zurich ; † January 21, 2008 in Maur ) was a Swiss entrepreneur .

Life

Sprüngli studied economics and business administration at the Universities of Zurich , Bern and Freiburg and did his doctorate in Freiburg on The Financial History of the Tobler Chocoladefabrik , Bern (published 1951). In 1965 he became managing director, from 1971 to 1994 he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the chocolate manufacturer Lindt & Sprüngli , after which he was Honorary President . His decision to go public in 1986 was groundbreaking for the company. Sprüngli had other board memberships, including being President of the A. Hürlimann AG brewery and, at times, Vice President of Schweizerische Kreditanstalt , the predecessor of today's Credit Suisse .

Rudolph Sprüngli was married to Elisabeth Halter for 45 years, who is Lindt & Sprüngli's largest single shareholder (based on the percentage of shares). From this marriage there are two sons and a daughter. Sprüngli's divorce and the marriage in 1992 to Heidi Gantenbein (* 1948; † January 6, 2012 in Arosa ), who has called herself Alexandra Gantenbein since 1985, caused a great stir in the public. Most recently he lived in Forch- Scheuren, municipality of Maur .
