The Rue d'Ankara is a relatively small street in Passy , the 16th arrondissement of Paris .

location

The street begins on Avenue de Président Kennedy , an expressway running parallel to the nearby Seine , and ends after 148 meters on Avenue Marcel Proust . Shortly before, she crosses Rue Berton . Together with Rue Berton and Avenue de Lamballe , Rue d'Ankara forms a triangle.

Name origin

Rue d'Ankara was formerly called Rue Berton . It was named after the Turkish capital Ankara when the Turkish Embassy in Paris moved into its domicile. Subsequently, the former Rue du Roc got its current name Rue Berton .

history

This path in the former municipality of Passy is listed on the Roussel map from 1730 under the name "Rue de Seine". On May 23, 1863, it was added to the Paris road network as part of Rue Berton.

The street formed the border between the park of the Hôtel de Lamballe , sold in 1922 , whose properties were divided into Avenue de Lamballe , Avenue du Général-Mangin and the Turkish Embassy, and the former mineral water park of Passy, whose property was acquired by Benjamin Delessert around 1800 Site later became the «Parc Delessert» (today Parc de Passy ).

The embassy building used to be the famous mental hospital of Dr. Émile Blanche. In it the writers Gérard de Nerval (from August 27, 1853 to October 19, 1854) and Guy de Maupassant (from January 1892 to his death on July 6, 1893) - ultimately unsuccessfully - treated.

As of September 28, 2000, the street from Avenue du Général-Mangin to Avenue Marcel-Proust is a one-way street.
