Rune Urban Gustafsson (* 25 August 1933 in Gothenburg , † 15 June 2012 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish guitarist of modern jazz and a composer of film music .

Live and act

Gustafsson began his musical career in the band of drummer Nils Bertil Dahlander in Gothenburg. In the 1950s he moved to Stockholm and worked there with Putte Wickman ( Swedisk Jazz Kings , 1957), with Arne Domnérus and the Swedish radio jazz orchestra, and as a busy studio musician. In 1961 he produced his first album under his own name, Young Guitar ( Metronome Records ) with Arne Domnérus, Jan Johansson , Jimmy Woode , Bjarne Nerem , Börje Fredriksson and Jan Allan .

He recorded the album Rune at the Top in 1969 with the Norwegian drummer Jon Christensen . He was also involved in recordings by Sabu Martinez , by Arne Domnérus ( Dialog , 1972), with Georg Riedel , Cornelis Vreeswijk and Ulf Johansson from 1968 until the 1980s . In 1973 his album Rune Gustafsson Himself Plays Gilbert O'Sullivan was created . In 1975 he worked with Thad Jones and around 1980 with Benny Carter at his sessions in Sweden. As a resident musician with Sonet Records , he has been involved in sessions with American musicians such as Red Mitchell ( On a Clear Day , 1976) and Zoot Sims ( The Sweetest Sounds , 1978 and In a Sentimental Mood , 1984). In 1994 he worked with Kjell Öhman . Gustafsson was also active as a composer of film scores, such as for the Swedish films Mannen som slutade röka (1972), Släpp fångarne loss, det är vår! (1975) and Söndagsbarn (1992).

In 2009 Gustafsson was awarded the Lars Gullin Prize .
