Jan Allan

Jan Allan (* as January Bertil Allan on 7. November 1934 in Falun ) is a Swedish jazz - trumpet player and composer as well as physicists.

Live and act

Allan began his career as a pianist in 1951, moved to Stockholm and then switched to the trumpet as his main instrument. During this time he played in the orchestra of Carl-Henrik Norin ; 1954/55 he worked with Lars Gullin / Rolf Billberg , 1955-59 with Carl-Henrik Norin. At the same time he earned a doctorate as a physicist. Despite the relatively small number of his own records, Allen is one of the most important modern jazz musicians in Sweden. From 1960 to 63 he led a quintet with Billberg; he then worked in the 1960s a. a. with Arne Domnérus , Georg Riedel and Bengt Hallberg . From 1968 to 1975 he belonged to the Swedish radio jazz group. His album Jan Allan -70 received a Grammy in 1970 for best jazz production. It involved Rolf Ericson , Nils Lindberg , Bobo Stenson , Jon Christensen and Rune Gustafson . With this and Georg Riedel, Allan recorded the trio album Sweet And Loverly in 1992 . His 1998 album Software had a strong affinity for West Coast Jazz by Gerry Mulligan and Stan Getz . Jan Allan also composed the music for the films Picasso's aventyr (1978), Sopor (1981) and Trollkarlen (1999).

During his career, Allan also recorded albums with Bosse Broberg , Benny Carter , Dorothy Donegan , Lars Gullin , Jan Johansson , Thad Jones , Roger Kellaway , Lee Konitz , Nils Lindberg , Georg Riedel , George Russell and Monica Zetterlund .

Allan received the Lars Gullin Prize in 2000 . In 2009 he was awarded the Swedish Django d'Or as a Master of Jazz .
