The railcar RE No. 89 was a vehicle of the Ruppiner Eisenbahn .

Originally it was an Edison type accumulator railcar, which began operating on the Söhrebahn in 1926/1927 . The intermediate car of this vehicle was equipped with a diesel engine in 1934 and used on the Söhrebahn . The company number is not known.

In 1938 the vehicle was used on the Ruppin Railway . There it was given the number 89. The railcar was taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1949 as the VT 135 551 . The vehicle was used until the mid-1950s and is no longer available.

history

Söhrebahn

The railcar used on the Söhrebahn from 1926/1927 was given the internal designation T 10 by the company.

The railcar did not meet the expectations placed on it there. The steep route often pushed him to his limits. After further problems it was shut down until 1930.

After 1930, the middle car of the accumulator railcar, which already had a driver's cab on site at both ends, was fitted with a diesel engine in the former mail compartment and the vehicle was used as a towing car. The conversions were carried out by the Credé brothers wagon factory , the engine was supplied by MAN , the additional electrical equipment came from BBC Mannheim . The two passenger compartments of the 2nd and 3rd carriage class were retained.

Until 1938 the car took over a large part of the passenger transport outside of the rush hour, where steam trains were still used. Then it was sold to the Ruppiner Railway. The two end cars of the accumulator railcar were in operation as passenger cars until 1961.

Ruppin Railway

The railcar was designated as RE 89 by the Ruppiner Eisenbahn.

DR 135 551

The vehicle was taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1949 as VT 135 551 and remained in the Reichsbahndirektion Schwerin . In a photo, the railcar from 1963 in the Dessau repair shop still has the 3rd class designation. The official decommissioning date was 1968, the scrapping dates are not known.

Constructive features

The car underframes consisted of sturdy long and cross members that were riveted together, the car body was a wooden box frame that was planked with sheet steel on the outside. The arched roof was drawn in at the ends of the car. The middle door led to the machinery. A side aisle led past the former mail compartment, which housed the diesel engine after the renovation. A 2nd class compartment and a 3rd class compartment have been set up for the passengers. These were also the workstation of the driver. Originally the intermediate car of the accumulator rail car had a transition door to the end car in each end; these were removed when the car was converted into a single vehicle.

In addition, the railcar had a luggage compartment and a toilet, which meant that there were only a few seats. There were additional folding seats in the luggage compartment.

The diesel engine came from MAN, and the electrical equipment from BBC Mannheim was renewed. The drive design was retained; one axle served as a drive axle with a pawl bearing drive , the other was non-powered. As a result of the power transmission selected, the railcar weighed 31,800 kg, while comparable lightweight diesel railcars with mechanical power transmission weighed around half.
