Russell Dominic Peters (born September 29, 1970 in Toronto ) is a Canadian stand-up comedian and actor. He often and extensively deals with ethnic and national stereotypes in his programs .

life and career

Peter's parents are from India . Born in Toronto in 1970, he grew up in Brampton, Ontario and began acting as a comedian in 1989 at the age of 19. He became better known as a stand-up comedian, among other things, due to appearances in the Canadian television program Comics! and Comedy Now! partly, some of which were also seen in the United States . In a 2008 interview, Peters cited as highlights of his career an appearance in 2005, when he was the first artist with South Asian ancestors to create a sold-out hall at the Apollo Theater in New York and two appearances on consecutive evenings at the Air Canada Center in Toronto in 2007 when 15,000 tickets were sold each time. In 2008 he appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno , and in 2009 he was a guest on Craig Ferguson's Late Late Show . He has been performing outside of North America for a number of years, for example in 2008 he made several appearances in Australia , India, Norway , Sweden , Singapore , Dubai and Beirut , and in 2009 he was seen in the O2 arena in London. In addition to his stand-up appearances, Peters occasionally also works as an actor. He will also host the Juno Awards in 2009 for the second time since 2008 .
