Rut Bryk

Linnea Rut Bryk (born October 18, 1916 in Stockholm , Sweden , † November 14, 1999 in Helsinki , Finland ) was a Finnish ceramist and artist.

Life

After training as a graphic designer, she worked as a designer at the Arabia porcelain factory from 1942 onwards . 1945 marriage to the Finnish designer Tapio Wirkkala . While her first works reveal influences from the Renaissance , folk art and constructivism , in her later years she found a more individual style that can best be defined as "organic constructivism". The landscape of Lapland served as a source of inspiration, which she also influenced in her large pottery, "The Arrival of Spring in the North". Since 1985 it can be seen in the Finnish representation in Delhi . In 1991, with her work “Jäävirta”, she designed the official seat of the Finnish President in Mäntyniemi / Helsinki . Rut Bryk died in 1999 as an internationally recognized artist.

Exhibitions

Since 1949 Rut Bryk's works have been shown in numerous solo exhibitions. 1970 in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and 1980 in the Helsinki City Hall. In 2001 the Arabia Museum showed a retrospective.

Awards

As an internationally recognized artist and designer, Rut Bryk has received numerous awards. In 1951 she received the grand prix of the Milan Triennale and in 1972 the State Prize of the Exempla in Munich . In 1974 she was awarded the Finnish State Prize for Design and in 1978 she received the Medal of Honor from the City of Helsinki .
