Ruth Strasser

Ruth H. Strasser (born December 1, 1952 in Gomadingen ) is a German doctor specializing in internal medicine, cardiology, internal intensive care medicine, angiology and cardiovascular imaging . From 1999 to 2017 she was a professor at the Medical Faculty of the TU Dresden and Clinic Director at the Heart Center Dresden .

Life

After graduating from high school in Schwetzingen in 1972 , Strasser began studying medicine and chemistry at the University of Heidelberg in the same year , which she graduated with the state examination in 1979. Parallel to her studies, she did research at the Department of Experimental Pathology and Cell Biology at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg. After completing her studies, Ruth Strasser was a research assistant in the Department of Cardiology (Medical Faculty) at Heidelberg University and received her doctorate in 1979 with the dissertation “Investigations into the specific influences of serum and liver cytoplasm on the DNA synthesis of isolated hepatic cell nuclei”.

Between 1982 and 1984, the doctor worked as part of a training grant from the German Research Foundation at the Department of Cardiology and Biochemistry at Duke University and was employed there as a Senior Research Associate until 1986 . After returning to the Medical Clinic of Heidelberg University in 1986, Strasser acquired her specialist in internal medicine in 1988 and in cardiology and internal intensive care medicine in 1990. After her habilitation in 1989 on the subject of "Adenylate cyclase-coupled β-adrenergic receptors: Structural properties and mechanisms of sensitization and desensitization", she became senior physician at the Medical Clinic of Heidelberg University Hospital . After receiving the Hermann and Lilly Schilling endowed professorship at the University of Heidelberg (November 1991), the appointment as managing senior physician (1996) and a senior representative of the Department of Cardiology, Angiology and Pulmonology (Medical Clinic Heidelberg), Strasser received the additional designation "Special internal intensive care medicine" and was appointed adjunct professor on March 14, 1996 .

After she was appointed senior physician in charge in Heidelberg in January 1998 , the physician accepted the call to a C4 professorship at the Medical Faculty of the Technical University of Dresden in 1999. Ruth Strasser took up this position on December 1, 1999 , as well as the position of Director of the Clinic for Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the Heart Center Dresden University Clinic at the Technical University of Dresden, which she both held until March 31, 2017.

From 2002 to 2017 Strasser was also Medical Director for Cardiology at the Dresden Heart Center. In 2007 she was certified as a specialist for cardiovascular MRI and in 2008 for angiology , in 2012 she was recognized for cardiovascular MRT level III by the European Society for Cardiology and in 2016 she was also recognized for cardiovascular CT level III by the ESC. She qualified for special interventional cardiology and special rhythmology implants of the German Society for Cardiology . As part of her work, she had the qualification for further training in internal medicine in the network (5 years), internal medicine with cardiology (6 years in total), internal intensive care medicine (2 years), as well as the cardiovascular MRI training authorization (1 year).

Since 2000 she has been the scientific director of the Dresdner Herz-Kreislauftage, an event organized by the support group Dresden Herz-Kreislauftage, of which she is the first chairwoman, and since 2015 she has been a member of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation's selection committee to award the Alexander von Humboldt Professorship.
