Ruth Megary
Ruth Megary (born May 7, 1923 in Munich ) is a German singer , actress and conferencieuse .
Life
Ruth Megary grew up in Munich's artists' quarter Schwabing and studied opera singing at the Mozarteum Music Academy in Salzburg from 1943 to 1944. Megary lived in Munich - Schwabing until 2019 . Megary has lived in Haselbach (Lower Bavaria) since 2020 .
Career
For the victory celebration of the 3rd US Infantry Division in Klessheim Castle (Salzburg) on May 8, 1945, Megary was selected as a singer from among the Mozarteum students who remained in Salzburg. To do this, she had to rehearse the songs Summertime and Night and Day . Her appearance meant that she got a permanent job: until the end of the 1950s she was engaged as a singer in the troop support of the 3rd Division.
This was followed by American shows with the actors Margot Hielscher , Paul Dahlke , Fritz Odemar , the Ufa film ballet under the direction of the chief film officer of the American military government Erich Pommer .
Ruth Megary starred in the 1951 film Fanfares of Love , directed by Kurt Hoffmann, alongside Grete Weiser , Georg Thomalla and Dieter Borsche . Ruth Megary played with Gene Kelly in The Devil Makes Tree . Revues, shows and cabaret followed in Zurich and Basel. In 1955 she played in the Apollo Theater in Munich in the Christmas revue "Käptän Ahoi" together with Klaus Havenstein .
In 1957 Ruth Megary completed her, as she writes on her website, "private theater and singing training" when she got an engagement as an opera and operetta singer in Karlsruhe. Engagements in Switzerland and a revue tour through Yugoslavia followed; in Belgrade there was an appearance with the song “Summertime” in front of Josip Broz Tito on the occasion of a state reception - together with the Berliner Ensemble .
As the first conferencieuse (in German, English and Italian), Ruth Megary became known in the Munich Apollo Theater , and then in Germany and throughout Europe. In the 1960s she had various guest appearances in ensembles such as Die Sorgebrecher , Auf Knall und Fall and Heiter with light rain, as well as touring Germany in Bremen, Hamburg, Berlin, Stuttgart, Vienna, Klagenfurt and Strasbourg.
From 1978 to 1993 Ruth Megary thrilled her audience in Bavaria as "Rosa Zacherl, the newspaper woman from Munich Central Station", a figure she wrote for herself. On her Bavarian tour with the Weißblauen Lachparade , Megary enjoyed great popularity along with the artists Franzl Lang , Fred Bertelmann as well as Marianne and Michael . Guest appearances in the s'Münchner Isarbrettl and in Ottis Schlachthof followed.
From 1994 to 2006 Megary had "farewell appearances" several times. In 2003 ZDF dedicated a contribution to her "Ruth Megary - 80 years and not a bit old". The BR series " Lebenslinien " dedicated a 45-minute portrait to her in March 2012: "I'm still there - the singer Ruth Megary". The broadcaster VOX engaged Ruth Megary for the docu-soap "rent buy live", which was broadcast on October 10, 2013. On November 8, 2014, she appeared on the show Das Supertalent .
