Ruth Benerito

Ruth Mary Benerito (born on 12. January 1916 in New Orleans as Ruth Mary Rogan , died on 5. October 2013 in Metairie , Louisiana ) was an American chemist .

Life

Benerito began studying chemistry at the age of 15 at H. Sophie Newcomb Memorial College, the women's college at Tulane University ( B.Sc. 1935). After studying at Bryn Mawr College , she returned to New Orleans and received a master's degree from Tulane University in 1938 . In 1948 she received his doctorate from the University of Chicago finally to the Ph.D.

After teaching at various institutions, she joined the United States Department of Agriculture Research Center (USDA) in New Orleans in 1953 . Here she devoted herself to the further development of fat emulsions for intravenous nutrition . In 1958 she became head of the USDA Cotton and Cotton Products Research Laboratory .
