Ruthard (also Ruodhard ) († April 15, 950 ) was Bishop of Strasbourg from 933 to 950 .

Life

He probably received his training in Swabia . Nothing is known about his election as bishop in 933.

In 939 he was in the uprising of the royal brother Henry and the Duke Eberhard of Franconia and Giselbert of Lorraine against Otto I participated. Although he was initially in the vicinity of the king, he left the court during the siege of Breisach and went to Metz with Archbishop Friedrich von Mainz to meet Heinrich and Giselbert von Lorraine.

After the defeat of the rebels at Andernach in 939, Otto I removed Ruthard from his office and banished him to the Corvey monastery . But already in 940 he was pardoned and confirmed as Bishop of Strasbourg. There are largely no conclusive sources about his work there.
