history
Magyarszentmárton was founded in 1806 by the settlement of 100 Hungarian families from Szeged . It was the first Hungarian settlement in the Banat. Until the First World War, Magyarszentmárton was part of the Kingdom of Hungary within the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary . The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the triple division of the Banat, whereby Magyarszentmárton fell to the Kingdom of Romania . Since then, the official name is Sânmartinu Maghiar .
