São Mamede de Infesta is a city and former municipality in northern Portugal . It is part of the Porto metropolitan area .
history
The place already existed at the time of the Roman occupation , the Roman road from Olisipo (Lisbon) to Porto and further into the Gerês Mountains leads here.
It is possible that São Mamede was re-founded in the course of the medieval Reconquista . The place was documented for the first time in modern times as S.Mamede in the royal registers from 1258.
São Mamede de Infesta was elevated to a city ( Cidade ) on May 17, 2001 . It remained an independent municipality until the territorial reform in 2013 and has been part of the municipality of São Mamede de Infesta e Senhora da Hora ever since .

São Mamede de Infesta was an independent municipality ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Matosinhos in the Porto district . In the former municipality, 23,140 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011) live on 5 km².
The municipality consisted only of the place of the same name, which is located in the closed built-up area of the Porto metropolitan area.
In the course of the regional reform in Portugal on September 29, 2013 , the municipality was merged with Senhora da Hora to form the new municipality União das Freguesias de São Mamede de Infesta e Senhora da Hora . São Mamede de Infesta became the seat of the municipality, the former municipal administration in Senhora da Hora continued to exist as a citizens' office.

Among the companies in the city area, the EFACEC should be mentioned in particular . The electrical company, founded in 1948, is a leading manufacturer of solutions for substations , electromobility and automation technology; it also manufactures transformers, generators, motors and turbines. Efacec generates around three quarters of its sales abroad.
