Sérgio Santos (* in Varginha , Minas Gerais ) is a Brazilian samba singer , guitarist and composer .

Life

Santos began his professional musical career in 1982 as a singer in the performance of the Missa dos Quilombos by Milton Nascimento , the recording of which was released as an LP the following year. He performed at various music festivals and on television in the 1980s and worked as a producer and arranger on albums by Tadeu Franco ("Alma Animal"), Tavinho Moura ("Caboclo D'Água"), Beto Reis ("Uma Ciranda, Uma Roda, Um Samba ”) and Flávio Henrique (“ Primeiras Histórias ”) with.

From 1991 he worked with the poet Paulo César Pinheiro , of whom he set about 160 songs that were performed by singers such as Leila Pinheiro , Ana de Hollanda , Fátima Guedes , Simone Guimarães , Cláudio Nucci and Olívia Hime .

In 1995 he released his first album Aboio , which won the Prêmio Sharp de Música in 1996 and was released in Europe, the USA and Japan. In 1997 he performed alongside Gal Costa , Guinga and the Banda Mantiqueira at the Kaiser Bock Winter Festival in São Paulo. In 1998 the Spanish sculptor David Lainez held an exhibition in Pamplona with paintings and sculptures inspired by the album Aboio .

In 1999 Santos appeared in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Bowl and in San Francisco in the Fall Theater . In 2000 he performed with Leila Pinheiro , Olívia Hime , Lenine , Zé Renato and the Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira as a singer in the performance of the Sinfonia do Rio de Janeiro Francis Hime at the Teatro Municipal . In 2003 he received the Troféu Pró-Música in Belo Horizonte in the category of best composer of the year.
