Location and economy

Söråker belongs to the Timrå municipality . The place is about 25 km as the crow flies southwest of the provincial capital Härnösand and, together with the community center Timrå a few kilometers to the west, belongs to the agglomeration around the city of Sundsvall . These places extend around the inner part of the Sundsvall Bay of the Gulf of Bothnia in the Baltic Sea . Söråker is located on the northeast bank of the part of the bay called Klingerfjärden, north of the island of Alnön , into which the Indalsälven river flows into a delta immediately west of the village . Söråker is the second largest town in the municipality after the central town of Timrå.

Locally leading European route E4 over. It is located on the Sundsvall - Långsele (Ådalsbanan) railway , which was opened on the section to Härnösand in 1925 as part of the then private East Coast Railway (Ostkustbanan) . The route is currently being expanded as a southern extension of the Botniabanan for high-speed traffic with partly new routing, which means that the stop in Söråker will no longer be necessary; the closest train station will be the Midlanda Resecentrum at Sundsvall-Härnösand Airport (Midlanda), which is located in the Indalsälven delta between Söråker and Timrå.

Söråker has a seaport and several business parks.

Culture and sport

Söråkers Folkets Hus is the cultural center of the place. Söråker is home to the Söråkers IF sports club , best known for its bandy team , as well as the Söråkers FF football club, which was separated from it in 2001 .
