Søby-Færgen was a Danish ferry that operated on the Søby - Fåborg route from 1980 to May 22, 2012 . Home port was Søby.

history

The ferry was built as a general cargo and pallet cargo ship Østbornholm in 1966 for Aktieselskabet Det Østbornholmske Dampskibsselskab in Nexø and was the last ship of this shipping company at the time. Until April 2, 1980 the Østbornholm drove for Bornholms Fragtrute A / S on the freight route Nexø– Copenhagen .

Then the ship came to Søby. It was converted into a passenger and car ferry on Søby Værft and received an elevated superstructure with a continuous vehicle deck. It was used on the Søby – Fåborg route. Until it was shut down, it belonged to the following owners who operated this line: Hurtigruten Faaborg – Ærø K / S (April 2, 1980 to August 18, 1999), Det Ærøske Færgetrafikselskab (DÆF) (August 18, 1999 to May 8, 2002), Det Ærøske Trafikselskab I / S (May 8, 2002 to October 5, 2006) and Ærø Kommune (October 5, 2006 to May 29, 2012). In some cases the ferry was also used on all other routes to and from Ærø .

In 2012, the ferry, which was 45 years old at the time, would have required an extensive reconstruction worth two to three million Danish kroner , which the municipal ferry company Ærøfærgerne could not finance. Therefore the ferry line was included in a new triangular route, which in addition to the Søby – Fåborg route also serves the route to Fynshav . There the Skjoldnæs is used, which ran both routes until the Ellen was commissioned and made the Søby-Færgen superfluous.

Your last bet was made on 22 May 2012 after which it was on May 29, 2012, the Dutch sold and society MOBI Groep BV in Marstal launched . On December 28, 2014, the ship left Marstal under the name Soby for Cape Verde .
