Søster von Knuth (born August 14, 1658 as Søster Lerche in Copenhagen ; † March 29, 1723 or 1729 in Knuthenborg ) was a Danish noblewoman and landlady .

Life

Søster Lerche was born in 1658 as the daughter of the mayor Cornelius Pedersen Lerche and Anne Kirstine Friis'. The father, a successful diplomat and landlord on Lolland , was ennobled in 1660. At the age of 19 Søster Lerche married Eckhard Christoph von Knuth from the Mecklenburg nobility family Knuth , who quickly experienced social advancement. Eckhard von Knuth bought Årsmarke and Bandholmgård in 1681on Lolland. He later expanded the property. In 1697, when Søster von Knuth was 39 years old, Christopher died and his wife managed the estate from then on and looked after their eight living children. In 1701 she became co-owner and finally sole owner of Havløkkegård , a smaller piece of land near Knuthenborg . She led a life as a powerful landlady, founded a school and tried to marry off her children in good matches and to give them a good education. In 1714 she succeeded in obtaining the newly created county of Knuthenborg for her son Adam Christoph von Knuth .
