The ship was built at the Hamburg Norderwerft Köser & Meyer . The ship named after the North Frisian Hallig Süderoog was delivered on December 19, 1956 and put into service.

The ship was used in the North and Baltic Seas . The ship, which was decommissioned in 1989, was u. a. equipped with echo sounder and wreck detector.

The ship was two four-stroke - six-cylinder - diesel engines of the manufacturer MWM each with 310  hp power driven and reached a speed of 12  knots .

Whereabouts of the ship

The ship was sold after decommissioning and converted into a yacht for twelve passengers. It was used as an Indian Ocean Explorer under the flag of the Seychelles for trips through the island world of the Seychelles and as a platform for diving excursions. At the end of March / beginning of April 2009 the ship was kidnapped by pirates. At that time there was only a crew of seven on board . The pirates demanded US $ 1 million for the release of the ship and crew. Finally, US $ 450,000 was paid in June 2009. The pirates then released the crew, but set the ship on fire.
