The Southern Qi Dynasty is an epoch of the Chinese Empire that lasted from 479 to 502 .

The Southern Qi Dynasty fell at the time of the division of China into a southern and a northern part after the end of the Jin Dynasty ; one also speaks of the time of the Southern and Northern Dynasties ( Chinese  南北朝 , Pinyin nánběicháo 420 - 581 ). The Southern Qi formed the second of the Southern dynasties , while the Earlier Song Dynasty ( 420 followed -479) and even by the Liang Dynasty (502- 557 was replaced).

In the north it faced the Northern Wei Dynasty, which had been founded by the nomadic Tuoba in 385 . The northern border of the Southern Qi Dynasty ran around 100 km south of the Huanghe .
