SR Rao
SR Rao ( Shikaripura Ranganatha Rao ; born July 1, 1922 in Anandapuram , Shimoga District , † January 3, 2013 in Bangalore , Karnataka ) was an Indian archaeologist who dealt with underwater archeology .
Life
SR Rao studied at the University of Mysore (BA, 1942) and Nagpur University (MA, 1946). As an archaeologist, he led several excavations in various Indian locations such as Rangpur , Amreli , Bhagatrav , Dwaraka , Hanur , Aihole and Kaveripattinam . As an author, he has written several books on his archaeological discoveries. For example, together with his archaeological research team, he discovered the port of the submerged Indian city of Lothal , which was part of the Indus culture , in the Indian state of Gujarat.
