history

The company was founded in 1945 by Jozef Van den Eede as "Sociale Dienst VEV" within the Vlaams Economisch Verbond. During the reconstruction after the Second World War , it became clear that there was a demand for companies to outsource part of their management. In the first ten years, the customers of the Sociale Dienst VEV were mainly small businesses. As the economy recovered, the number of customers increased and social legislation became more complex, the company increasingly looked for mechanical methods to make the documents and calculations more efficient. In 1965, SD was the first social secretariat to introduce the use of computers in corporate management. Now the market with larger companies could also be tackled.

In 1975 the offering was expanded from employee administration to human resources in the broader sense. In 1985 the founder and director retired after 40 years; his successor was Jan van den Nieuwenhuijzen, who headed the company until 2012. From 2013 to 2019 the company was headed by Steven Van Hoorebeke, who was replaced by Kobe Verdonck as CEO at the end of 2019.

In 1997 the name Sociale Dienst VEV was changed to SD Worx and in 2008 the tagline “Result driven HR” was added.

The company began its international expansion with its own office in Luxembourg in 2003, followed by a branch in the Netherlands in 2005, three offices in France in 2007 and three offices in Germany in 2008. The company also founded the Payroll Services Alliance, a network in over 20 countries. In 2015 SD Worx took over the company CTB A&A in the Netherlands and entered into a joint venture with CTB Personele systemsen. Now there are five offices in the Netherlands.

In August 2015, Ceridian became a member of the Payroll Services Alliance, so that SD Worx is now also active in the USA and Canada.

In 2016 SD Worx took over both the German HR service provider fidelis HR and the British and Irish branches of Ceridian, including Mauritius. SD Worx is now represented in ten countries. With the addition of Ascender, the Payroll Services Alliance can now also welcome customers in Asia and Oceania.

Furthermore, in 2017 the daily schedule was changed to "For Life. For Work". In the same year 2017, SD Worx Holding took over the temporary employment agency VIO Interim and in 2018 the Flexpoint Group. With this, SD Worx Holding entered the flexible work market.
