The tank locomotives of the Swedish steam locomotive series SJ S5p were procured for various private railways between 1893 and 1903 by the Nydqvist och Holm , Motala Verkstad and Kristiansands mekaniske Verksted locomotive factories .

They had the 1 C wheel arrangement and were only included in this series at Statens Järnvägar after the nationalization of the respective owner companies as part of the general nationalization of the railways in Sweden .

ULB 2-4

The three ULB 2-4 locomotives were delivered in 1893/94 by Nydqvist och Holm in Trollhättan for the approximately 90-kilometer Lelångenbana (Uddevalla – Lelångens Järnväg) . When the ULB was nationalized on July 1, 1940, the locomotives were given the numbers S5p 3013-3015 . After SJ had shifted the majority of freight traffic to standard-gauge lines, consumer goods trains were introduced between Bengtsfors and Bäckefors in 1958. On May 28, 1960, the last rail bus drove south from Bengtsfors Västra.

S5p 3013 was retired in 1955, the other two locomotives followed in 1958.

FJ 4, 5, 7

The three locomotives FJ 4 and 5 were delivered in 1899 as HALLAND and WESTERGÖTLAND and the FJ 7 in 1905 without a name for the more than 100 kilometer long Falkenberg – Limmared railway line of Falkenbergs Järnväg from Nydqvist och Holm in Trollhättan. When the FJ was nationalized on July 1, 1940, the locomotives were given the numbers S5p 3016–3018 .

Because of the financial losses on November 1, 1959, all traffic except for passenger traffic between Axelfors and Älvsered , which continued until May 1, 1961 because of the poor roads, was suspended. The demolition of the line began immediately after the last train and was completed in late 1961.

S5p 3016 was retired in 1954, the other two locomotives followed in 1958.

KBJ 1

The KBJ 1 locomotive was delivered in 1896 by Nydqvist och Holm in Trollhättan for the 77-kilometer Kalmar – Berga line , which was operated by Föreningen för Kalmar läns östra järnvägs byggand . From 1915 she was employed by various other companies and in 1948, when Klintehamn-Roma Järnväg was nationalized, it was incorporated into Statens Järnvägar as KlRJ 3 "THOR". It was given the number S5p 3074 .

The locomotive was retired in 1948.

VGJ 1–4

The four locomotives VGJ 1-4 were delivered for the 130 km long Gothenburg – Skara line of Västergötland – Göteborgs järnvägsaktiebolag opened on January 1, 1900 by Motala Verkstad in Motala during the construction phase in 1898. They were later used on other routes in the large network that the company operated mostly through acquisitions over the years. When the VGJ was nationalized on July 1, 1948, the locomotives were given the numbers S5p 3091–3094 .

SJ pursued the former plans of VGJ to carry out most of the traffic with motor locomotives. In 1954 a number of the new type Tp diesel locomotives were delivered, which very quickly replaced the steam locomotives. At the end of the 1950s, steam locomotives were practically no longer in use; they had been replaced by the Tp locomotives in freight traffic and by multiple units in passenger traffic. The phasing out of S5p 3093 was carried out in 1953 by S5p 3091 1955 and from S5p 3092 1956th

Get remained S5p 3094 . The locomotive was modernized and rebuilt in Kalmar Verkstad in 1950 . It was in use in Växjö until October 1957 and was then shut down. From 1959 to 1961 she was in action in Katrinefors for several periods . Between 1962 and 1994 it was a memorial in Hjo . On December 7th, 1994 it was brought to Skara for the Skara – Lundsbrunn museum railway and dismantled for repair. On May 28, 1997, it was put under steam again for the first time, transferred to Lundsbrunn on August 29, 1997 and in 2009 it was the first SkLJ locomotive to be put into operation.

SAJ 1-2

The two locomotives SAJ 1–2 were delivered for the 21 km long railway line Sköve – Axvall of Skövde – Axvalls Järnvägsaktiebolag opened on March 6, 1904 as SKÖVDE and AXVALL by Motala Verkstad in Motala.

LSSJ 7 ", 47, 48"

SAJ 2 ( AXVALL ) was handed over to Lidköping – Skara – Stenstorps Järnväg in 1909, where it was named LSSJ 7 ". In 1916, it was renamed LSSJ 47. It was in operation at Västergötland – Göteborgs järnvägsaktiebolag from 1919 , internally referred to as VGJ 47, however, until it is taken over by SJ, it is not provided with the VGJ's ownership designation.

SAJ 1 ( SKÖVDE ) came to the subsidiary of VGJ, Lidköping – Skara – Stenstorps Järnväg , on May 5, 1935 with the takeover of SAJ by LSSJ and was given the designation LSSJ 48 ". At VGJ it was operated under the same company number.

They were later used on other routes in the large network of Västergötland – Göteborgs järnvägsaktiebolag , which the company operated mostly through acquisitions over the years. When the VGJ was nationalized on July 1, 1948, the locomotives were redrawn as follows: LSSJ 48 " became S5p 3097 and LSSJ 47 became S5p 3096. Both were retired in 1955 before their main line was closed.

There the locomotives were given the new numbers NVHJ 11 and NVHJ 12 . Were considered the NVHJ 1949 nationalized the two locomotives were designated S5p 3137 and S5p 3138 , one year later was S5p 3137 retired, S5p 3138 followed 1958th
