The Kalmar – Berga railway is a 77 km long railway line in Sweden . Today it is part of the Stångådalsbanan .

history

Its construction was carried out by the railway construction company Föreningen för Kalmar läns östra järnvägs byggand , founded on October 1, 1891 . The concession to build the line was granted on September 16, 1892.

This concession was transferred to Kalmar läns östra järnvägsaktiebolag , founded on August 6, 1895 , which took over the operation of the line after the construction. Construction of the 891 mm ( narrow gauge ) line began on March 24, 1896. On December 4, 1897, the line for passenger and freight traffic as Kalmar – Berga Järnväg (KBJ) was put into operation.

Transfer to Statens Järnvägar

As part of the general nationalization of the railways in Sweden , the Swedish state bought the Kalmar – Berga line and Mönsterås nya Järnvägsaktiebolag in 1940 and transferred them to Statens Järnvägar , and Kalmar läns östra järnvägsaktiebolag was dissolved.

Operation and re-gauging

Passenger traffic on the entire route was stopped in 1967. In 1973 the section between Sandbäckshult and Kalmar was converted to standard gauge. Today the railway has been completely converted to standard gauge.
