Part of the Stångådalsbana between Tannefors and Hjulsbro

The Stångådalsbana is a Swedish railway line that runs 235 km from Linköping via Vimmerby to Kalmar . The railway is single-track and not electrified and runs largely in the valley of the river Stångån .

The name Stångådalsbana is an art term that came about in 1990 when Banverket gave it a name .

history

Originally there were three independent railways or parts of them that made up this route:

These private railways were nationalized in the late 1930s and early 1940s.

The narrow-gauge railway was converted to standard gauge in the 1970s. In 1996 the railways were combined into one unit. Since June 2008, the railway line has been used by regional trains from Veolia Transport , which renamed Transdev in 2015 .

For the route to Oskarshamn that branches off in Berga, see: Railway line Nässjö – Oskarshamn .
