The second SMS Magdeburg was a small cruiser of the Imperial Navy . It was to be used as the fourth ship of the Cöln class . The name was given in memory of the small cruiser Magdeburg that was stranded on the island of Odensholm on August 26, 1914 .

Due to a lack of material and staff, construction was stopped nine months before completion. On November 17, 1919, the Magdeburg was removed from the list of warships. The ship was sold on October 28, 1921 and demolished in 1922.
