The second SMS Rostock was a small cruiser of the Imperial Navy . It was the sixth planned ship of the Cöln class and was originally to be built as a replacement for the cruiser Mainz , which was sunk on August 28, 1914 . The ship was then named after the small cruiser Rostock , which sank in the Skagerrak Battle .

Due to a lack of material and staff, construction was slow. It was stopped seven months before completion. On November 17, 1919, the Rostock was removed from the list of warships and sold for demolition in 1921.
