The second SMS Leipzig was a small cruiser of the former imperial navy. This should be used as the fifth ship of the Cöln class . The name was chosen to commemorate the small cruiser Leipzig sunk in the sea battle near the Falkland Islands . Due to a lack of material and personnel, construction was stopped seven months before completion. On November 17, 1919, the Leipzig was removed from the list of warships. In 1921 the ship was sold and demolished.
