The diesel locomotives of the series Y 6020 of the SNCF were shunting tractors ( locotracteur ), which were procured in the 1930s by the state railway company Chemins de fer de l'État (ETAT). Identical individual pieces were produced by the railways Chemin de fer de l'Est (EST), Administration des chemins de fer d'Alsace et de Lorraine (AL), Compagnie des chemins de fer du Nord (Nord) and Compagnie du chemin de fer Paris- Lyon-Méditerranée (PLM) procured and sorted into this series.

History and description

SNCFY Y 6022 in Remiremont (Vosges 88)

The shunting locomotives procured by Baudet Donon Roussel (BDR) under the manufacturer designation 12V 100D HN5 in 1931 and 1932 went into service at ETAT as ZZ 207 to ZZ 221. Finally, two vehicles followed as the ZZ 351 and ZZ 352 of the manufacturer's type 8V 100 HN6. The BDR merged in 1960 with the metal construction company later trading under the name EIFFAGE METAL, which goes back to the founder Gustave Eiffel . The locomotives originally had a 100 hp engine made by Mercedes Benz and Renault.

When the SNCF was founded in 1938, the 17 ETAT vehicles were given the numbers LZZ BD 10201 to 10205 and LZZ BD 10211 to 10222. In 1946, together with the individual purchases from the other railway companies, they received a new engine from the manufacturer Willème with 115 hp and two years later the series designations Y BD 10200 (20 vehicles) and Y BD 10400 (two vehicles).

In the years 1960–1961 the machines were overhauled again and received a 150 hp in -line six-cylinder diesel engine with the designation F6M 517P - again from the manufacturer Willème. The original mechanical 6-speed gearbox was replaced by a hydromechanical 8-speed gearbox from the manufacturer CFD ( Ateliers CFD de Montmirail ). The modernizations were carried out by Ateliers de Nevers .

In the course of this, they also received their last valid designation as Y 6024 to Y 6037, without the vehicle ZZ 221 (Y BD 10205), which was not converted. Two machines from PLM followed as Y 6038 and Y 6039, the more recent ZZ 351 and ZZ 352 from ETAT became Y 6040 and Y 6041. From then on, the individual pieces from EST, AL and Nord ran as Y 6021 to Y 6023.

Remaining and preserved locomotives

The locomotive Y 6022, erected as a monument in an industrial area in the city of Remiremont, one and a half kilometers northwest of the station on the railway line, was scrapped in 2012.

An unidentified copy of the series was deposited at the Chemin de fer touristique de la Sarthe (Transvap) in Beille (Sarthe 72) as a spare parts donor and was to be scrapped. In 2007, the Chemin de Fer Touristique des Hautes Falaises (CFTHF) museum railway in Tourville-les-Ifs (Seine Maritime 76). The locomotive was there in October 2014 together with an even older shunting device from BDR from 1930 in an unrefurbished condition.

Two other unidentified specimens also was at Pontivy in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany stopped and in the industrial area of the municipality of Rouxmesnil-Bouteilles in the department of Seine-Maritime in the region Normandy .

Only one machine with the inscription ETAT Z 218 (that would be the former SNCF Y 6035) on the Train de la canner museum railway, operated by the Association Lorraine d'Exploitation et de Modélisme Ferroviaires (ALEMF) on the railway line from Vigy to Hombourg-Budange in the Moselle department . However, the identity of this specimen is not certain. The vehicle was in 1994 at the Société d'Applications Diesel (SAD) locomotive workshop in Illange.

Another almost identical machine from BDR from 1932 had survived as the "Y 12004" at the Train touristique de Marqueze (TTM) in Sabers. The association operates a museum railway on one of the lines of the Société Anonyme des Voies Ferrées des Landes (VFL) . It is not known whether the vehicle was previously in service here. It comes from a series of four vehicles that were put into service as BDR-14 to BDR-17 at Nord and were classified as Y BD 12001 to Y BD 12004 at the SNCF. The vehicle now belongs to the Parc naturel régional des Landes de Gascogne in Sabers and is together with SNCF Y 6233 and CFTA BB 4028 at the Ecomusée de Marquèze in Sabers.

An almost identical locomotive was used by an industrial company in a silo operation in the hamlet of la Chapelle du Chêne in the municipality of Vion in the Sarthe department .

Models

A 1:43 scale reproduction was planned by Haxo Modele - Roger PICHON in the 2010s.
