history

Savonlinnan Pallokerho was founded in 1929. In 1952, the ice hockey department was founded, which in the 1960s took part in the SM-sarja , the top division at the time. In 1968 the team reached the final of the Finnish Cup competition, in which it was defeated by Koo-Vee with 2:10. In 1971 he was relegated to the second division, the Suomi-sarja.

In 1974 the Finnish league system was reformed and SaPKo was one of the teams that were assigned to the new I-divisioona . In the following years SaPKo mostly played in the second division, but also rose to the third division, the II-divisioona , from and up again.

In the 1994/95 season, the team around Brian Tutt reached the qualification for the SM-liiga against Ilves , but failed at the first-class club from Tampere. In the following playing years, the team could no longer build on these successes and finally relegated to the third division, the Suomi-sarja . It was not until 2006 that he was promoted to the Mestis , in which SaPKo has played since then.
