The Saalberg (not to be confused with the nearby Saalberg near Barntrup ) is 266.4  m above sea level. NN high elevation of the Lipper mountains in the municipality of Aerzen in the Lower Saxony district of Hameln-Pyrmont .

Geographical location

The Saalberg lies at the junction of the Lipper Bergland and the Weserbergland to the east in the southern part of the Weserbergland Schaumburg-Hameln Nature Park . It rises about 5 km southwest of the center of Aerzen , about 2 km southwest of the Reher district and about 0.75 km north-northwest of the Grießem district .

The otherwise wooded Saalberg in the Hägerholz forest area has a large agricultural area northwest of the summit. About 900 m west-southwest of its summit lies the border with North Rhine-Westphalia and about 3.5 km west of it the Saalberg near Barntrup ( 342.9  m above sea level ).

In the valley south of the Saalberg, the small Grießebach flows north-east through Grießem and then through Reher as a south-westerly tributary of the Humme , which runs a little northeast of the mountain and flows eastward to the Weser .

Transport links

The Bundesstrasse 1 runs through the Grießebachtal south of the Saalberg from Aerzen in the northeast via Reher and Grießem, crossing the border with Lower Saxony, to the Barntrup district of Sonneborn in the southwest . Until its final closure (1994), the railway camp ran through these villages as part of the Bielefeld – Hameln railway line, which is still in operation further west ; The tracks have long been removed and the route is now laid out as a cycle path - warehouse Bahnweg . Forest paths lead from Grießem up the mountain.
