history

Saar was mentioned for the first time in 1290. The church there is said to have been built in 1080. In the 16th century the existing fortress was converted into a renaissance castle. This was the seat of the Saar people , the lords of the Saar dominion. After the Battle of the White Mountain (1620) the Protestant family lost their property and the rulership changed hands several times. In their time from 1662 to 1804, the von Nostitz family redesigned Saar Castle and had the church rebuilt.

Saar became a school location at the beginning of the 18th century. After the end of rule and the establishment of an independent community in the judicial district of Duppau in 1850, a new schoolhouse was built. The barren soils of the Duppau Mountains always made additional sources of income necessary. There were three mills and a sawmill near Saar.

In 1924 the community had 578 inhabitants, including five Czechs, nine Jews and one foreigner. In 1945/46 the German residents were expelled. In 1954, those who remained and those who had moved there were also evacuated, as the Hradiště military training area was built. The castle burned out in 1963. The rest of the building stock was completely destroyed or removed.
