The Saarland two-wheel museum was opened in 1989 in Wadgassen and expanded at this location in 2004. After Villeroy & Boch gave the sponsoring association its premises in a restored part of the old Cristallerie in Wadgassen in 2007 after the building was sold, the museum sponsoring association has been looking for a new permanent location ever since.

The collection includes over a hundred motorcycles and a number of bicycles . The focus is on motorcycles from France , due to the proximity to the neighboring country and the special history of the region. A remarkable collection of old original posters , enamel signs and historical accessories completed the exhibition.

The members of the Motorcycle Veterans Club Wadgassen-Bous, who are responsible for the museum, are concerned  with documenting the special features of the Saarland's history - also in terms of motorization.

Between 1919 and 1935, what was then known as the Saar area was under the administration of the League of Nations . The French influence was very great, so a lot of French-made vehicles were allowed on the roads of the Saar area. The French brand Terrot was the market leader for motorcycles , followed by BSA , Gnome et Rhône and Peugeot . A variety of makes and models could be seen on the streets.

Closure of the museum in Wadgassen

The owners of the museum premises Villeroy & Boch gave notice to the museum association on September 30, 2007. A factory outlet center is to be built at the site . In the museum's blog , the association announced that the museum will probably find its new place in the Völklinger Hütte World Heritage Site . In the meantime, the collection was housed with a small exhibition in an old cinema in Völklingen, the premises offered by the Völklinger Hütte could not be accepted by the sponsoring association due to the necessary renovation and expansion costs of estimated two million euros that could not be financed.
