Saaz circle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Saazer Kreis (in old spelling also Saatzer Kreis , Czech. Žatecký kraj , Latin. Circulus Satecensis ) was an administrative district in the north-west of the Kingdom of Bohemia with its seat in the city of Saaz .

history

It existed from the 14th century until 1848 and was located in the northwestern part of the kingdom. The neighboring districts were the Elbogen district and the Pilsner district in the west, the Leitmeritz district in the east and the Rakonitzer district in the south. From 1714 to 1751 the areas of the Elbogen district also belonged to the Saaz district. It was reorganized in 1748 in accordance with the administrative reforms of the time. With the administrative reforms after 1848, the districts functioned only as a supervisory authority and were replaced in 1867 by the more delicate system of political districts (see list of districts in Bohemia ).

The group included, among others Kadan , Chomutov , Preßnitz , St. Sebastian Mountain , Brüx , Laun , Postelberg , Podersam , Maschau and Schönhof .
