Sabine Maehnert (born June 21, 1955 in Hildesheim ) is a German archivist and director of the Celle city archive .

Life

Born in 1955 in Hildesheim, Sabine Maehnert grew up in Celle from the age of two . After graduating from high school, she went to Marburg , where she graduated as an archivist from the then technical college , the Marburg Archive School . In 1978 she worked in the Celle city archives, where she initially sifted through, sorted and recorded the archival material , mainly after years of detailed work .

Maehnert then increasingly devoted himself to the history of the Jews and Huguenots in Celle, as well as the processing of the local history of National Socialism . She also turned her attention to the buildings of the architect Otto Haesler in Celle.

Maehnert played a key role in the design of the Celle synagogue for exhibition and educational purposes, organized an exhibition on the Huguenots in Celle Castle and personally guided interested people through the Jewish cemetery in Celle .

In addition to various book contributions, Sabine Maehnert published numerous articles, including for example in the “Sachsenspiegel” of the Cellesche Zeitung .

Sabine Maehnert invited numerous well-known speakers to lectures in Celle, often organized accompaniments, support and guided tours for visitors to the city of Celle, as well as rewarding the services of those invited.

Together with her husband Carsten Maehnert, Maehnert prepared study trips and was involved in establishing the town twinning between Celle and the town of Mazkeret Batya in Israel .

Sabine Maehnert also played a key role in the creation of the organizer association of the Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation with the Jewish community of Celle and the Celle city archive.

In 2012 Sabine Maehnert was awarded the “ Honorary Award ” of the Working Group of Social Democratic Women (AsF).
