Life

Sabine Tegtmeyer-Dette was born in Stade and graduated from the Vincent-Lübeck-Gymnasium there. In 1981 she went to Hanover to study German and political science and received the degree of Magister Artium there in 1989 with a thesis on storytelling in everyday life . In parallel with her job, she trained from 1990 to 1993 at the Leibniz Academy in Hanover to obtain a degree in administrative management . She is married to Michael Dette, a Hanoverian councilor and deputy chairman of the Green Council.

Tegtmeyer-Dette has been a member of the Greens since the mid-1980s and held various functions in the Lower Saxony state association. From 1988 she was its deputy managing director for two years, from 1990 to 1991 she ran the business of its local political association and was its finance officer from 1992 to 1995. She is currently chairman of the Greens in the Ricklinger District Council .

From 1995 to 2005 she was head of corporate controlling at the Hanover municipal association and the Hanover region . From October 1, 2005 to mid-2013, Sabine Tegtmeyer-Dette was the authorized signatory of Üstra and was responsible for the commercial management and planning of strategic projects in this local public transport company. Also from 2000 to 2013 she was part-time authorized signatory of the supply and transport company Hanover .

In 2011, Tegtmeyer-Dette was elected deputy district mayor of Ricklingen. She gave up the office in May 2013 in order not to get into a conflict of interest because of her future position as a department head. Her husband Michael Dette followed in Ricklingen.

Since August 1, 2013, she has succeeded Hans Mönninghoff as First City Councilor of Hanover and heads the Department for Economy and Environment . As First City Councilor, she was acting head of the city administration until the new Lord Mayor Stefan Schostok took office on October 11, 2013 (vacancy of the office due to the change of the former incumbent Stephan Weil to state politics). Before she was elected in November 2012, Stephan Weil emphasized her administrative experience and “her broad cross-sectional knowledge”, which is particularly useful for municipal investments. She supported the controversial establishment of an animal testing facility of the pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim in Kirchrode , which is considered a sign of her pragmatism. One of her first important topics is the future of the Ihme Center . The head of the department appears to the opposition CDU parliamentary group in the Hanover city council as “conspicuously inconspicuous”. After Schostok, as announced at the beginning of May 2019, was put into early retirement on May 26, 2019, Tegtmeyer-Dette took over the provisional management of the city administration as first city councilor until Schostok's successor Belit Onay took office on November 22, 2019.
